Christmas Tree at Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon
The Bradesco Seguros Christmas Tree (Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon Christmas Tree) is set up on the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon waters and features amongst the largest floating Christmas trees in the world, measuring an impressive 85 meters high. The Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon Christmas Tree has been a symbol of Christmas in Rio de Janeiro ever since 1995.
Every Christmas this beautiful tree is inaugurated on the 1st of December accompanied by spectacular fireworks lighting up the night sky. There it remains for visitors to admire until the 6th of January (the Epiphany). In addition, a different theme is chosen for the Bradesco Seguros Christmas Tree every year. This Christmas in Rio 2012, the tree has been decorated in accordance with the theme “All the Christmas’ Around the World” with colors reminiscent of the four seasons including yellow for summer, white to remind us of snow in winter, different shades of green for autumn, and colorful flowers with a 3D effect representing spring.
As part of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon Christmas tree inauguration celebrations, visitors can expect an array of performances in Parque de Cantagalo (Cantagalo Park) located nearby the lagoon. They will include a concert adaptation of “the Wizard of Oz”, as well as a ballet performance of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker”. In addition, the Orquestra Sinfônica de Barra Mansa (Barra Mansa Symphony Orchestra), Coral da Fundação Bradesco (Bradesco Foundation Choir) and famous singers will be treating visitors to an array of festive tunes.
